Guillermo Bravo founded Foottraffik in 2017. The idea came out of Cashinbis, the cannabis media platform he co-founded in 2014, and Green Rush Expo, the first cannabis event in San Diego. Interviewing operators across the industry turned up the same gap every time: dispensaries had no marketing infrastructure and no agency that understood how they worked.
Google, Facebook, Instagram and every other major platform blocked cannabis businesses from advertising. Local search was the only channel that brought customers in reliably, so that is where Foottraffik started.
What Foottraffik built
- Local SEO for cannabis dispensaries, the first offering of its kind in the country
- Google Business Profile optimization across every location a client operated
- Google Ads for cannabis, inside the compliance rules the category has to follow
- Programmatic advertising for dispensary brands
- Performance marketing for multi-location cannabis retail
Why it worked
- Dispensaries were shut out of paid advertising on every major platform
- Local search was the one compliant channel that scaled
- No agency understood the compliance rules, the terminology or how dispensary customers buy
- That expertise took years to build, which is what made the business worth acquiring
The expansion and the exit
As the dispensary market matured, Foottraffik moved past local SEO into paid search and programmatic advertising. That work led to a partnership with MediaJel in 2019, and to the acquisition two years later.
Paid search for cannabis meant working inside tight limits on what ads could say and where they could run, and programmatic advertising reached audiences on sites that accepted cannabis brands. Both ran alongside local SEO.
How the playbook worked
The core of the Foottraffik approach was simple to describe and hard to run across many stores. Every dispensary location got a complete, accurate Google Business Profile. Every location page answered what customers search for before a first visit. Reviews came in steadily, citations matched everywhere, and the work was judged by the customers it brought in.
Doing that for one store is routine. Doing it for multi-location cannabis retail, where each store has its own market, its own competitors and its own compliance limits, is what took the agency years to get right.
Where the work went next
MediaJel acquired Foottraffik in 2021, and Guillermo stayed on for about two years through the transition. In October 2025 he launched Nearfront, which runs the same local search playbook with AI agents handling the repetitive work and live reporting for every location. The playbook itself stayed the same: complete profiles, useful location pages, steady reviews and matching citations.
Foottraffik's history matters to a dispensary choosing SEO help today because it showed that local search for a regulated industry is its own discipline, with knowledge a general agency does not bring on day one.
